The dimensions of the reservoir are: capacity 4.941 million cubic meters and an area of 360 thousand square meters. The dam is 30 meters high and 280 meters long. The reservoir has a permanent reserve of 1.56 million cubic meters in case of a flood.
Lake Czerniańskie, sometimes called Reservoir Czerniańskie, is an artificial reservoir water tank built in Wisła Czarne in the years 1968 – 1973 for retention purposes as well as an reservoir of drinking water. It is also the place where the waters of the White and the Black Vistula Rivers melt and from where the queen of the Polish rivers starts its long way to the Baltic Sea.
Apart from its very practical functions the dam is also a very popular tourist attraction. The lake is surrounded by picturesque mountains of the Silesian Beskid Mountains, Mount Barania among them. The Residence of the President of Poland (Zameczek) is another attraction located near the lake as well as the valley of the White Vistula River, the famous Kaskady Rodła and an open-air museum of the village of Wisła.
